PGE Price Increase

For Oregonians, in 2024, it looks like our electric bill is also subject to the rising costs of services and materials. Portland General Electric (2024) has announced how the cost of energy will increase going into 2024. These numbers are taken from their press release and could still vary, but this what we know so far. The increase in cost is listed as a percentage based on the type of consumer below.

  • 17.2% for residential
  • 15.9% for commercial
  • 11% for industrial

That means that cost of energy is going up 17.2% for the average residential household.

Statement from PGE

PGE reassured customers they are still working on ways to keep energy prices low and are still offering incentives to reduce the cost of energy for consumers. More details on this price increase can be found [here]. If you think you should qualify for one of those incentives, reach out to PGE.

If you want to see if you qualify for an HVAC system that earns incentives, call us at (503) 393 – 5315. As a PGE certified contractor, we are familiar with PGE’s incentives and can match the right system to your home.

High Efficiency HVAC Systems Help Mitigate Price Increase

As we have stated before, a High Efficiency HVAC system can save money on your utilities. This could be something like a [smart system]. A smart system, like the name implies, works smarter, not harder. The system avoids unnecessary run-time or heating and cooling to provide a more consistent level of home comfort and won’t run up the bill.

In our experience, this has helped customers lower their monthly utilities by as much as 20% to 30%.

Heat Pumps Save Money and Energy

Another option is the increasingly popular heat pump. Heat pumps are becoming so common in the United States that they made up over half of all new home HVAC systems this year. Why is the heat pump becoming the heating solution of choice for so many?

Simple answer: They save money.

Reduce Energy Use by 50%

A heat pump is one of the most efficient ways that a person can heat their home. A heat pump uses thermodynamics to pull heat from outside of the home and pump inside. This also works in cold temperatures that we might experience during an Oregon Winter.

The heat pump can cool the refrigerant inside the outdoor unit, so that the air outside is warmer than the refrigerant and it will transfer that warmth indoors.

By transferring heat instead of creating heat, a heat pump uses substantially less energy than a traditional furnace. In most cases, this is around 50% less and in extreme cases, [as much as 65% less].

Save Over $500 on Utilities Per Year

That difference in energy use translates to savings on your annual utilities bill. To give you an idea of how much a heat pump can help you save, [customers have reported annual savings of over $500!].

For context, that should cover the cost of groceries for a month for one person under the USDA’s most liberal spending plan.
